Quarantine Cards 2020

In March I began making my Quarantine Cards. Someone suggested that we make art to celebrate the vernal equinox. I had not been in my studio for a while and I didn’t want to start a new series, but I thought I would make small cards and mail them to fellow artists and friends. I began by using scraps of paper that I had used for testing paint or cleaning my brushes. Since most of my work is square, I had a large supply of quality paper strips. I, also, had a large supply of previously mixed paint, so I set to work. The first were just entitled Spring Cards 2020. On these, I just used my routine techniques of washes and colored pencils. After Spring, I continued with contrasts. A friend told me about free online courses offered through MOMA. and I began Post War Abstract Artists. These gave me more techniques with which to experiment. Experimentations are another motivation or in the cards. As I have moved on, I have started incorporating underused materials and techniques that I had collected from workshops and other sources.
